Punch Kettlebell Gym
I came to Punch Austin with 5 weeks to get ready for training camp with the defending AIFA Champion Reading Express. A standout high-school and NCAA collegiate athlete I was embarking on a new journey, being a rookie playing professional arena football. I soon discovered Punch Austin was the only gym I would need in my preparation for my rookie year, it was hard to give up conventional football lifting such as the bench, squat, and cleans but I soon discovered the Art Of Strength system would blow conventional strength systems away. 2x per day, 5 days per week I killed myself either in personal 1-on-1 training sessions with Henry or intense circuits and classes with Chris. I’ve yet to decide which was worse.
Circuit style training with kettlebells, bandit loops, ropes, Bulgarian bags, stones and tires gave me results I’d never seen with conventional training. Olympic and compound multi-joint movements increased my strength, speed, power, and stamina exponentially; other components such as balance, agility and core strength, which are vital to being an athlete sky-rocketed as well. I dropped tenths of seconds off my 40 yd dash and shuttle run times with minimal running throughout the 5 weeks, which is amazing. Athletes pay thousands of dollars on speed training to do what I did through Punch Austin.
Besides massive increases in my athletic performance Punch Austin took care of my general health as well. Offensive Lineman can neglect general health issues such as blood pressure and body fat in an effort to keep mass on our frames. After leaving Punch Austin I’d dropped 9% body fat and gained 9 lbs of muscle. I was 285 lbs with 18% body fat, all in 5 weeks. When I completed my physical my blood pressure was lower than ever, which had been and issue and my resting heart beat was barely above 60.
Punch Austin truly gave me the tools and training to be successful during my rookie year. Going into training camp my cardio and endurance was vastly superior to anyone in camp. I’m halfway through my rookie year with the Express. I’ve established myself as not just a player but a legitimate football player here. I’ve started 6 games on the offensive line at 2 different positions, play on almost every special teams unit, as well as seeing considerable time at fullback. At 6’0” 285lb I give up minimum 3 inches and 30lbs to any of my opponents and about 3 years of experience but it doesn’t matter.
Punch Austin is a great gym for many reasons. The training is intense, but suitable to everyone from professional athletes, to soccer moms, to people just trying to improve their overall fitness. Punch Austin is unique in the way that everyone there is a family. We’re all bonded together by the training we do in the gym. Chris and Henry generally care about every individual in the gym, not just their bank account. Many times I sat in Punch Austin and talked about life not just training. I’m proud to be associated with Punch Austin and will continue to train there during the off-season to prolong my football career. Punch Austin is a place where champions train, professional athletes, soccer moms, business men, and grand-parents alike all strive for one common goal at Punch Austin, bettering themselves and living life to the fullest. When that happens then you’re a true champion, no matter what reason you train for.
